| #1 | I've been wondering where all this Gemological info comes from. Were you in the business? Or do you have great consultants?

Hi Melanie I don't mind your being nosy. So am I, although I call it wondering. That's what moves me to delve into subjects and lives. Your question re my interest in gems and my knowledge of them is not so easily or briefly answered. Very early on I held a garnet up to my eye and saw the brilliant red world it contained and my fascination took over and grew out of ordinary proportion. Consider that simple experience eventually transporting me to nights along the dangerous Thai/Burma border buying rough rubies from extremely rough Burmese soldiers...to spending afternoons in the office of Harry Winston overlooking Fifth Avenue trading stories and enjoying spectacular gems from his private collection, as well holding in hand jewelry that once adorned such as Marie Antoinette and Madam Du Barry. Such things infest the blood. GAB By the way, have you looked into the web site AUTHORSUNLIMITED.COM? |

| #3 | Thanks for the note... I've not been in the business now for a couple of years, but recently found a great website that resparked that incredibly deep passion that I've always had for gems. You may want to have a quick look-see. http://www.palagems.com. Richard Hughes writes incredibly well about sapphires (and there is some FAB photography). The intense colour of those Kashmir and Burmese sapphires just makes my heart thud!
What a great time that must have been looking at Harry Winston's goods. Not many have better than him, do they?
I think you write quite well about gemmology...Quite accurately, as I said earlier. And I absolutely LOVED the description of how Stone 588 could have ended up on this planet. Really interesting!
Awaiting the next book with baited breath!! Have you been to Australia? I'm not a huge fan of opals, but Lightning Ridge was an interesting little town. 1 grocery store, 1 petrol station, and 8 jewellry stores!!
